THE APPROACH

What I Do

I combine physiotherapeutic and osteopathic techniques to correct the body structures that contribute to pain in addition to finding the primary cause of the client’s pain. For complex issues, like persistent pain and concussions, this involves considering and treating the function and structure of the musculoskeletal system (muscle and joints), central nervous system (dura and cerebrospinal fluid of the brain and spine), peripheral nervous system (autonomic, motor and sensory), and the postural system which has impact on the cardiovascular, endocrine (hormonal) , digestive, and immune systems. Ultimately, the aim is to remove barriers for the client so they can make incremental steps towards attainable short term goals which will inevitably lead to exponential growth in order to attain their long term goals.

MAIN CAUSE

Identify the primary local problem

Through thoughtful and specific conversation of what the primary concerns are a treatment plan and goals can be set

CONTRIBUTING FACTORS

Outline the factors or  barriers contributing to the primary problem

Integration of the full picture. The impact of entire body systems, like posture and central/peripheral nervous system contribute to the primary concerns.

INTEGRATE WITH FUNCTION

Address system functioning

Integrate structural treatment with correcting system function, such as breathing, movement patterns and nervous system functioning.

THE TOOLS

What treatments I use

Take control of your pain and health with a customized, laser focused and modern treatment approach - that goes back to the basics and beyond, using concepts from groundbreaking pain neuroscience, Physical Therapy & Osteopathy to lead you to your goals.

MANUAL THERAPY

Manual therapy including but not limited to, joint mobilization and manipulation, soft tissue therapy, cupping, muscle energy techniques, cranio-sacral therapy, myofascial release

INTRAMUSCULAR STIMULATION/DRY NEEDLING

A dry needling technique used for neuropathic pain, myofascial pain syndromes and persistent pain. What is Gunn IMS? ubcgunnims.com

EDUCATION

Understanding what contributes to pain through explanation, 3D anatomy models, apps, and Blog Posts. During hands on treatment and exercise real-time EXPERIENCE  is where real learning & healing can occur.

THE APPROACH: BACK TO BASICS

What I Do

Effective Physical Therapy treatment needs laser focused goal setting and direction, engagement, execution & frequent team sessions.

BREATHING RETRAINING

The body is like a fluid filled balloon, balancing pressures and fluids can assist with stabilizing the spine. Breathing is the stage for the 3 pillars of health: good sleep, nutrition and exercises. Learn  how to control your breath.

REPROGRAMMING THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

Retraining the motor control, movement patterns and variability, ocular motor, central nervous system functioning,  strength and capacity.

CONNECTED TEAM

As quarterback, we hold frequent & rhythmical team meetings with other players in the expert team of an exercise physiologist, registered message therapist and chiropractor.

Persistent and stubborn pain can be frustrating. Lets set you up for a WIN! The neuroscience is clear on the fact that positive emotion during treatment comes from moving towards an attainable target.

EXECUTE A WINNING GAME PLAN

Identify the primary problems & Eliminate Barriers

Longstanding problems can seem complex. Make it simple by identifying the primary barriers preventing your body from healing. Set up objective measures that will LEAD you to achieving your goals.

FOLLOW UP & KEEP SCORE

Frequent & Rhythmical meetings to keep your eye on the prize!

Lets keep score by keeping an eye on the objective measures and keep you on track with rhythmical and frequent follow ups.
